Launched on 23rd September 2018, PM-JAY is the world’s largest government-funded health assurance scheme, aimed at providing Rs. 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalization to over 12 crore poor and vulnerable families (about 55 crore individuals). It covers the bottom 40% of India’s population, based on SECC 2011 data, and includes families earlier covered under RSBY.
Fully funded by the Government of India, PM-JAY ensures cashless and paperless access to healthcare services at public and private empanelled hospitals across the country.
By mitigating catastrophic health expenses, PM-JAY protects millions from slipping into poverty due to medical bills and makes quality healthcare accessible for India’s most vulnerable.
